Our Methods
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented psychotherapy. It’s evidence-based, which means CBT is supported by extensive research and has been proven to be an effective treatment for anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, panic, PTSD, and phobias. It also helps with stress, grief, and coping with challenging life events like break-ups and divorce. CBT is based on the premise that psychological issues are often rooted in problematic thought and behavior patterns, and it provides a method for changing these patterns to help improve your emotional well-being. Using CBT, you and your therapist will focus on your current problems and collaborate to come up with customized, practical strategies that will help you to live the life you want.
-
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that aims to enhance psychological flexibility and promote a life that aligns with your values. ACT has been proven to help address a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder), depression, OCD, and PTSD. Using ACT, you and your therapist will collaborate to identify your values and develop customized strategies for how to live in accordance with them. Your therapist will be there to support you as you implement these strategies and learn new skills for coping with challenging experiences in your life.
-
Exposure & Response Prevention
Widely considered to be the gold-standard treatment for OCD, Exposure & Response Prevention is a well-established CBT technique. It’s proven to help individuals confront their fears, reduce their anxiety, and break the cycle of OCD, panic disorder, and phobias. Using ERP, you and your therapist will collaborate to fully understand the scope and impact of your obsessions (triggers/fears) and compulsions (rituals/comforting behaviors/avoidance). With the support of your therapist, you’ll gradually be exposed to your fears in a controlled environment and be encouraged to resist the urge to perform a compulsion. Over the course of treatment, your fears will lose their power over you, your urge to perform compulsions will diminish, and your quality of life will greatly improve.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of CBT that focuses on teaching you skills to better manage emotions, improve relationships, and reduce self-harming behaviors. Originally developed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder, it’s now recognized as an effective treatment for a wide-range of mental health challenges. Full-scale DBT programs include a structured combination of individual therapy, supportive phone coaching, regular self-monitoring, and weekly skills groups. We don’t currently offer full-scale DBT. Instead, we take a DBT-informed approach to treatment and teach DBT skills during individual therapy when indicated. Research shows that DBT Skills are effective as a stand-alone treatment. These include: mindfulness skills, distress tolerance skills, emotional regulation skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
